Welcome to the Denmead Twinning Association

The Denmead Twinning Association was founded in 1992 and connects our community with our friends in Saint-Georges-lès-Baillargeaux, France.  We foster long-term friendships and celebrate cultural exchanges through events and activities. Join the fun with us and share experiences, stories, and build lasting connections.

About Twinning

Twinning brings together individuals and families within each of the twinned villages through social events and activities.  The second, and equally important aspect of twinning, is that it brings together the two villages.

The highlight of each year is the twinning visit where we alternate between going to France and hosting our French friends in Denmead.  The programme for these visits includes a combination of group excursions and some precious time en famille in our hosts’ homes.

You do not need to be able speak French to be a member of the twinning association.  Over the years, some of the most memorable conversations have come about from a melange of sign language, Google translate and the enthusiastic use of Franglais.

Denmead

Denmead is a vibrant community which beautifully balances rural tranquility with a strong sense of belonging. We’re proud of our rich history, our active community spirit, and our stunning natural surroundings.

What truly makes Denmead special is its people. We’re a friendly and welcoming community with a diverse range of clubs, societies, and events that cater to all interests. From the Denmead Horticultural Society’s annual show to the lively Denmead Players’ theatrical productions and activities at All Saints’ church, there’s always something happening. Our local pubs and shops serve as hubs for social gatherings, fostering a strong sense of community spirit.

Nearby Creech Woods and surrounding fields are perfect for leisurely strolls and picnics with many cycle trails, allowing you to connect with nature and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

Saint-Georges-lès-Baillargeaux

Saint-Georges-les-Baillargeaux is a commune located in the Poitou Charentes region of France. Nestled a short distance northeast of the region’s capital of Poitiers, it enjoys a peaceful, semi-rural setting within easy reach of larger urban amenities. Imagine a town where traditional French charm meets modern living.

Like many French towns, Saint Georges has a history that stretches back centuries. But one of the most striking aspects of Saint Georges is its strong sense of community.  This strong sense of community spirit is one of the reasons that the twinning with Denmead has been so successful over the years.

St Georges is just ten minutes drive from Futuroscope – a theme park where the future is brought to life through breathtaking attractions using cutting edge technology.
